Above average breakfast with plenty of hot/cold dishes. Unbeatable and excellent location by the lake, and great bedrooms. A beautifully designed hotel, my first choice in Colchester.
Breakfast expensive.

The hotel is located in a great and lovely area, away from all the noise. the staff was consistently courteous and welcoming, and they were able to promptly resolve any issues. the breakfast was fantastic, with delicious a la carte options like omelettes and scrambled eggs, showing attention to little details.

If you like green and are looking for peace and quiet you are in the right place. Very comfortable bed with different pillows. Top WLAN and TV channel selection. Bathroom with shower and tub. Very spacious and comfortable room with seating area. (We were accommodated in the Village). Very suitable for trips to e.g. Colchester. . We unscheduled another night. That says it all.

Major improvement since my previous visit. The standard of the rooms was very high, with a extra large comfortable bed. Staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble. Food in the brasserie restaurant was very good.
Pool is not designed for doing length swimming, and some of the gym equipment needs updating, and possibly a few more machines. Breakfast didnt live up to the same expectations of the meal the night before

A good meal. Nice views. Beds had comfortable mattresses. Well designed shower room. Quiet location.
I did not like the pillows - very thick! poor night sleep. Unfortunately swimming pool was closed during our stay, so we only stayed one night (had booked for 3 nights) Further out of Maldon than had realised, because of the winding country lanes.

Despite being in a secluded location near Colchester/Chelmsford, the staff here are hard-working and exceptionally helpful.

The spa and gym were the best part of Five Lakes
The rooms initially are very spacious and lovely however, they are very dusty and that's not because of the refurb going on because we stayed in the village. The weekday staff were very helpful however the Saturday staff on the front desk one in particular was really rude not just to me but to others in our wedding party.
